STFD SAFETY CAMPAIGN

Because every child deserves to come home from school.

STFD = SLOW THE F&CK DOWN.

Yep... I said it.

Because sometimes that's exactly what needs to be said.

Why?

Every school day, hundreds of thousands of Indiana children are standing at bus stops before sunrise or stepping off a school bus in the afternoon... crossing roads, walking through neighborhoods,  while many drivers are running late, distracted, or simply driving too fast.

It's about our children safe.

Get in Touch

SLOW DOWN!

Ease off the gas. A few seconds could save a lifetime of heartache.

STAY ALERT!

Put the phone down and expect children near every bus stop.

SAVE LIVES!

Drive like it's your child waiting for the bus.

My Vision

My vision is to create a grassroots movement that inspires every Indiana driver to slow down, stay alert, and protect children around school buses and bus stops—because every child deserves to get to school safely and come home safely.

My Influence & Responsibility

With the privilege of reaching thousands of Hoosiers every day comes a responsibility to use that platform for more than weather. If I can influence even one driver to make a safer decision, I've made a difference that truly matters.

Our Kids

Our children are Indiana's future. They deserve to walk to the bus stop, ride to school, and return home safely every day. Protecting them isn't just a parent's responsibility—it's a responsibility we all share.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

For those of you wondering why I'm launching the STFD (Slow The F&ck Down) campaign... here's why.

Over the past several years, I've seen and read far too many stories about children across our country being seriously injured or killed while walking to a school bus stop, waiting for the bus, crossing the road, or getting off the bus.

Almost every time, the reasons are painfully similar.

  • Someone was driving too fast.
  • Someone wasn't paying attention.
  • Someone was looking at a phone.
  • Someone underestimated wet roads, fog, snow, or darkness.
  • Someone thought they could save 30 seconds.

As a weather forecaster, I spend a lot of time talking about how rain, fog, snow, ice, glare, and darkness change road conditions. But the weather is only part of the equation. The biggest safety feature in every vehicle is still the person behind the wheel.

This campaign also hits close to home—literally.

I live along one of the main roads through my subdivision. People routinely drive much faster than they should. In just the past six months, two different drivers have hit and destroyed my mailbox - once during daylight hours and once after dark.

Neither one stopped.

Neither one reported it.

Both simply sped away.

And every time I looked at the broken mailbox, I asked myself the same question...

What if that had been a child waiting for the school bus instead?

A mailbox can be replaced. A child's life cannot.

One careless decision can change dozens of lives forever—the child, their family, the driver's family, first responders, teachers, classmates, and an entire community. No destination is worth carrying that burden for the rest of your life.

That's why I'm asking every driver in Indiana to remember four simple letters:

STFD.

Slow The F&ck Down.

Especially between 6:00–9:00 AM and 2:00–5:00 PM, when thousands of Indiana kids in our local communities are walking to and from school or standing at bus stops.

I'd love to see neighborhoods, HOAs, schools, parents, school bus drivers, transportation departments, local businesses, and communities all get behind this effort.

And I'd like to throw out a challenge to every police department, sheriff's office, and Indiana State Police post across our state: Join us. Increase patrols around neighborhoods, subdivisions, rural bus routes, and known problem areas during these critical hours. Help remind drivers that slowing down for a few minutes each day could save a child's life.

If enough of us work together, maybe the next headline about a child at a bus stop...

...never gets written.

If you believe every Indiana child deserves to get to school safely and come home safely, please share this post.

Let's make STFD more than a slogan.

Let's make it a habit.
