The latest guidance shows a dry, hazy and seasonably warm Monday, with high pressure shifting east and winds gradually turning southerly. Northern Indiana will become breezier than central or southern Indiana as a cold front approaches from the northwest. Thunderstorms are expected to remain outside Indiana through the daytime, then reach northern Indiana late tonight—generally after 10 PM—with central Indiana’s greater storm risk arriving overnight into Tuesday.

Northern Indiana starts cool and hazy, with wildfire smoke continuing to filter the sunshine and potentially reduce visibility and air quality. Rochester, South Bend and Fort Wayne should remain dry through the daytime, with temperatures reaching the lower to middle 80s. The smoke may hold temperatures down slightly in areas where it remains thickest.

Winds will be noticeably stronger than Sunday. Light southeast winds during the morning become southerly around 8–11 during the afternoon, with ordinary gusts between 15 and 20. Winds turn south-southwest this evening as the pressure gradient strengthens ahead of an approaching cold front. Thunderstorms should remain northwest of the zone through most of the evening, although a stray storm could approach far northwestern Indiana around or shortly after 8 PM. The more likely arrival is after approximately 10 PM.

Pressure steadily falls from approximately 29.96 inHg at 8 AM to 29.77 inHg by 8 PM as high pressure departs and the cold front approaches.

Central Indiana gets another dry and mostly sunny day, although Canadian wildfire smoke will create hazy or filtered sunshine. Indianapolis should reach the upper 80s, with the temperature around 85 at 2 PM before peaking near 88 later in the afternoon. Humidity begins increasing, but today should remain less oppressive than Tuesday.

Morning winds favor the east or southeast before gradually turning southerly late in the day. Speeds remain around 4–7, with ordinary gusts near 10–12. No showers or storms are expected during the daytime or early evening. Clouds will increase tonight as the approaching front and developing storm complex move toward Indiana, but the meaningful rain and thunderstorm chance should hold off until after midnight—most likely toward Tuesday morning.

Southern Indiana begins with patchy fog in some valleys and sheltered areas, followed by mostly sunny skies. Salem and Paoli should reach the upper 80s, with the 2 PM temperature around 85. Humidity remains higher than farther north, but widespread heat-related problems are not expected today.

Winds begin calm or light and variable, then become easterly around 5 during the afternoon as weak high pressure remains nearby. Winds turn south or southwest this evening as return flow begins developing. The atmosphere should remain capped and stable enough to prevent meaningful shower or thunderstorm development across southern Indiana. Any isolated daytime convection should remain mainly south across central Kentucky. Precipitation chances remain at 0% through 8 PM.

Today is mainly dry, warm and hazy across Indiana. Wildfire smoke remains the most noticeable weather feature during the daytime, especially across northern and central Indiana. Afternoon temperatures reach the lower to middle 80s north and the upper 80s across central and southern Indiana.

Northern Indiana becomes breezier, with southerly gusts around 15–20 ahead of tonight’s cold front. Central and southern Indiana keep lighter winds, gradually turning toward the south by evening. Precipitation chances remain at 0% through most of the day statewide. Strong to severe storms expected tomorrow morning/early afternoon.
