Central Indiana begins the week warm and somewhat muggy, but this is definitely not shaping up to be a week-long heat wave. Monday looks mainly dry with hazy sunshine and afternoon temperatures reaching the upper 80s, with a few communities possibly touching 90 degrees. Humidity will make it feel hotter, but Monday should be the warmest—or very close to the warmest—day of the week.
A cold front arrives Tuesday, bringing our main opportunity for showers and thunderstorms. It will remain humid ahead of the front with highs in the middle 80s. A few storms could produce heavy rainfall, frequent lightning and gusty winds, but this does not look like an all-day rain for everyone. Once the front moves through, noticeably cooler and drier air pours into Central Indiana.
Wednesday through Friday should be the payoff. Afternoon temperatures are expected to remain in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees, with lower humidity, cooler nights and plenty of dry time. Wednesday may be a little breezy as the cooler air arrives, while Thursday and Friday currently look like two of the nicest July days Mother Nature can legally provide in Indiana. Open the windows and give the air conditioner a well-earned coffee break.
Temperatures begin climbing again over the weekend, but the comeback should be gradual. Saturday looks partly sunny with highs in the lower 80s. Sunday turns warmer, with highs reaching the middle to perhaps upper 80s, but humidity should remain more manageable than what we have recently experienced. At this point, most of the weekend looks dry.
